The Travel Channel has postponed the premiere of Adam Richman's new show "Man Finds Food" shortly after the television host got into an Instagram brawl over the hashtag #Thinspiration. The show, which follows Richman on his quest to find hidden food treasures, was to premiere Wednesday night.
"It’s been postponed, but we have no further comment on that," said Amelie Tseng, a spokesperson for the Travel Channel.
Tseng also added there's no word on when or if the show will eventually premiere.
In late June, Richman, who had lost weight on a diet, posted a photo of himself on Instagram with the caption "Had ordered this suit from a Saville Row tailor over a year ago. Think I’m gonna need to take it in a little…. #Victory #EyesOnThePrize #AnythingIsPossible #fitness #transformation #thinspiration"
That last hashtag struck a nerve with some people, including XOJane.com writer Amber Sarah. In an article on the website, Sarah wrote the word thinspiration is popular in pro-anorexia and pro-bulimia circles and often comes with photos of emaciated bodies.
One of Sarah's friends responded to Richman on Instagram, and an argument ensued on the social media site. Some of Richman's comments included expletives, and in one, the Washington Post reports Richman wrote "Grab a razor blade and draw a bath. I doubt anyone will miss you."
Richman issued an apology on "Good Morning America" on Tuesday, saying, "I've long struggled with my body image and have worked very hard to achieve a healthy weight. I'm incredibly sorry to everyone I've hurt."
Tseng could not comment on whether the show's postponement was directly related to Richman's Instagram incident and there is no word on whether it will also affect Richman's other shows, including the popular "Man vs Food."
A search of the Travel Channel website lists showtimes for upcoming episodes of "Man v Food", but we were unable to find any listing of the new show.
Richman's premiere episode was supposed to feature hidden Los Angeles gems, including The Escodite in Little Tokyo, Greenspan's Grilled Cheese, Cha Cha Chili and Jitlada.
