One of Southern California’s finest best craft beer bars, Seal Beach’s Beachwood BBQ, turns 7 this week, and in addition to a week-long celebration, it has brewed and bottled a special IPA that’s causing a stir among L.A.’s hop heads.

Beachwood 7 is on draft at the original Beachwood location and the one in Long Beach, and bottles have begun to hit beer shops and Whole Foods markets around Los Angeles and Orange County.

The 10%-alcohol double IPA uses seven hop varieties to commemorate the anniversary, and with brewmaster Julian Shrago’s reputation of crafting intense and layered hop profiles with his many IPAs, it’s likely to be a tongue pleaser.

Early reports from fans who tried the brew at its release Tuesday have been rave reviews, and the beer probably won’t stick around on shelves long -- only 180 cases of 22-ounce bottles were released.

The Seal Beach restaurant will also be offering a special tap list of winter ales and a menu of “Vegas buffet-themed food specials such as oysters Rockefeller, crusted king crab legs and a mouthwatering dessert sampler.”

But one special beer release apparently isn’t enough for the brewpub: Next week also sees the return of the seasonal Tovarish stout. A big and bold Russian imperial stout that is further emboldened with the addition of blackstrap molasses and espresso beans specially roasted by Beachwood’s frequent collaborators at Costa Mesa’s Portola Coffee Lab, Tovarish will be available on draft and in bottles beginning Dec. 27.

The Long Beach outpost will be celebrating the release with a “classic Russian fete, borscht and all” that will feature a “selection of Russian inspired dishes and desserts,” and the party starts Dec. 27 at 5 p.m.
