The Hungry Cat in Hollywood celebrates its ninth anniversary on March 10 with Oysterpalooza: half-priced specialty cocktails all day, including oyster shooters, half-priced oysters all day, oyster po’ boys, grilled oysters, pan-roasted oysters and more. The Varnish toasts its fifth anniversary and honors former bartenders with a reunion series. The series features a Varnish alumnus who will reclaim the bar each Monday in March from 7 to 11 p.m., with a limited edition menu. Superba Food & Bread in Venice is expected to open at the end of March, but it’s popping up at Superba Snack Bar on Wednesday. Chef Jason Travi, pastry chef Lincoln Carson and baker Jonathan Eng take over Superba Snack Bar for one night. On the menu: Roman pizza; miche toast with avocado; acorn squash hummus; testa with hot pepper jelly; not-so-matzo ball soup; black rice salad; sunchokes with green goddess dressing; ember-cooked celery root with lemon brown butter; burrata sandwich; banh mi with lemongrass pork sausage; arctic char; rotisserie leg of lamb; Superba candy bar with chocolate mousse and caramel; and torta Philadelphia with cream cheese, Sicilian pistachio, Meyer lemon and mascarpone. Santa Anita Park‘s Big Cap Craft Beer & Music Festival takes place on March 8, dedicated to live music, craft beer and thoroughbred racing. More than 30 craft breweries including Eagle Rock Brewery, Lagunitas Brewery, Stone Brewing Co. and Saint Archer Brewery are participants, along with musical acts such as LA Hootenanny and Doublewide. There will be a mechanical bull, cocktails and live horse racing with more than $1.4 million at stake, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 for general admission (with two drink tickets) and $100 for VIP (VIP betting area, stage seating, four drink tickets, half-off cocktails and beer and food from Gus’ BBQ).
