Today is Tax Day. Chances are, you've either got a refund burning a hole in your pocket or you just wrote a big check to Uncle Sam. Either way, a stiff drink could do you some good.
Here are some restaurants and bars offering Tax Day specials, including seven bars from the 1933 Group, offering $1 cocktails from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Just don't spend that refund all in one place.
Bigfoot West: $1 drink: Old-Fashioned with Buffalo Trace select barrel bourbon, simple syrup, Angostora bitters and Luxardo cherry, or the Pisco Punch with Kappa pisco, spiced simple syrup, pineapple juice, orange juice and Prosecco. 10939 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, (310) 287-2200, www.bigfootwest.com.
Copa d’Oro: Instead of a tax break, the Santa Monica bar is offering Tab Returns. Your discount for the evening depends on how much you spend. The more you spend, the bigger the discount. If your tab is $25 or less, you'll get 10% back. Spend $26 to $50 and get 15% back. Spend more than $51 and get 25% off your total bill. The promotion is running the day after Tax Day, Thursday, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. 217 Broadway, Santa Monica, (310) 576-3030, www.copadoro.com.
Hoboken and Matteo's: Both Westwood restaurants will be giving customers 15% off their checks Wednesday. Hoboken: 2323 Westwood Blvd., Los Angeles, (310) 474-1109, www.matteosla.com/hoboken. Matteo's: 2321 Westwood Blvd., Los Angeles, (310) 475-4521, www.matteosla.com/matteos.
Plan Check downtown: The restaurant is offering its Smokey Juarez cocktail for $7 on Wednesday. It's a mix of Xicaru Blanco mezcal, blood orange, lemon juice, simple syrup and a sprinkle of smoked salt. And for food specials, stop in during happy hour from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for pimento grilled cheese and bacon or a Southern fried chicken sandwich. 111 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, (213) 403-1616, www.plancheck.com/.
