Alice Short - Assistant Managing Editor, Features

As Assistant Managing Editor for Features, Alice Short oversees Health, Food, Home, Travel and Fashion content for the Los Angeles Times. She has worked at the paper for more than 20 years and has edited a number of Times publications, including the Life & Style daily features section, the Los Angeles Times Magazine, and Calendar Weekend. She has also worked as Daily Calendar Editor and Assistant Metro Editor.

Her current position involves oversight of five blogs (Daily Dish, All the Rage, Jacket Copy, L.A. at Home and Travel Deals & News) and six landing pages of digital content. She edits Pulitzer Prize-winner food critic Jonathan Gold and edits the content for the Jonathan Gold 101 Best Restaurants project, which appears in both digital and print formats. She reports and writes for the fashion, books and travel content streams. And she is involved in the planning of various L.A. Times events, including the Travel Show, the Jonathan Gold Bite Nite and The Taste, the Times’ Labor Day weekend food festival.

Before joining The Times, Alice worked as a reporter at the Burbank Daily Review, as an editor at the Los Angeles Herald Examiner and, for a year, as editor of a business management journal attached to the graduate school of management at USC . She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UCLA with a degree in history and lives in Mar Vista with her husband, Steve Vielhaber. Children? Yes, there are two. Greg and Madeline Vielhaber, who come home upon occasion to profess their love for their parents and then drink their beer.
