The Broadway cast recording of “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” on Sunday won the Grammy Award for musical theater album.

Steve Sidwell and Billy Jay Stein, who produced the musical with Jason Howland, accepted the award, given out as part of a pre-telecast ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

The musical, which premiered at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in New York in January 2014, tells the life story of King, including her troubled marriage to songwriting partner Gerry Goffin and their songwriting rivalry with Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann.

The other nominees in the category were “Aladdin,” “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder,” “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” and “West Side Story.” Last year’s Grammy winner in the musical theater category was “Kinky Boots.”
