The longtime home of late poet and songwriter Rod McKuen sells in Beverly Hills

The 45-year residence of the late poet-songwriter-singer Rod McKuen has sold in the Beverly Hills area for $12.9 million.

The Mediterranean-style mansion, set on close to an acre, is reached by way of a long driveway and surrounded by estate homes. At the heart of the home is a large record room with a 1970s-era recording studio.

The oversized rooms throughout the house have high ceilings with a variety of treatments including exposed beams and arches. A grand entry hall, a library, a den, a formal dining room, a breakfast room, seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms are within the 10,683 square feet of living space. An atrium courtyard, a basement wine cellar and seven fireplaces are among the amenities.

A swimming pool, a greenhouse and mature landscaping complete the grounds.

McKuen, who died this year at 81, was known for his books of poetry, his recordings of spoken-word poetry and music and his work as a film-industry composer. His more than 1,500 songs have been recorded by such as artists as Barbra Streisand, Johnny Cash and Frank Sinatra.
