A 73-year-old man was killed and several others were injured in a multi-vehicle accident in Huntington Beach on Friday morning, authorities said.

Four vehicles were involved in the crash that occurred about 10:50 a.m. at the intersection of Edwards Street and Mar Vista Drive, said Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority.

One vehicle overturned and caught fire during the crash, Concialdi said. Firefigthers put out the fire and used the “jaws of life” to carefully remove the driver from the vehicle.

“He was unconscious and unresponsive,” Concialdi said.

The man was taken by paramedics to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, where he was later pronounced dead. He was identified as Kim Xuan Vo of Stanton, according to the Orange County coroner’s office.

The driver of a pickup truck that was struck by Vo’s vehicle also suffered moderate injuries and was taken to UCI Medical Center. His condition is unknown.

At least three other people, including a man on a motorcycle and two women traveling in an SUV, received minor injuries in the fiery crash. The women were taken to a hospital in Huntington Beach for treatment, Concialdi said.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but Huntington Beach police Officer Jennifer Marlatt told City News Service that Vo failed to yield at the intersection and rear-ended the pickup truck.
