‘It was an intentional act:’ CHP looking for hit-and-run driver who struck LAPD motorcycle officer on 5 Freeway
California Highway Patrol investigators are looking for a driver they say intentionally hit the back of a Los Angeles police officer’s motorcycle, pushing the officer and the motor bike down the 5 Freeway for about a half-mile during the Wednesday morning commute.
The uniformed officer was riding his marked police cycle south on the freeway near Hasley Canyon Road at about 9:30 a.m. when a white truck hit him from behind, said CHP Officer Josh Greengard.
Based on witness accounts, the officer’s statement and other evidence, Greegard said, investigators believe the truck shoved the motorcycle for a significant stretch at “freeway speeds.”
“It was not an accident,” Greengard said. “It was an intentional act.”
The officer was able to stay on the motorcycle and ultimately get away from the truck before pulling over to the freeway’s shoulder, Greengard said. The truck sped off.
The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment, Greengard said, but was home recovering by mid-afternoon Wednesday.
Investigators have interviewed some witnesses, Greengard said. He asked anyone with information about the incident to call the CHP at (661) 294-5540.
