Villaraigosa to host Clinton fundraiser in Hollywood Hills home

Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will host a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign at his newly purchased Hollywood Hills home.

The $100-ticket event on Monday evening touts special guest Joel Benenson, the former chief pollster for Barack Obama. Clinton is not expected to attend the fundraiser, which was first detailed by the Hollywood Reporter.

Villaraigosa, who was mayor from 2005 to 2013, bought a $2.5-million contemporary home in the Hollywood Hills this year, records show. The home affords 300-degree views of the city skyline, including the Hollywood sign and the Griffith Park Observatory.

The 41st mayor has long supported the former secretary of state. Villaraigosa was a national co-chairman of Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign and was criticized for his extensive travel outside the city while stumping for her.

In February, Villaraigosa announced his decision not to enter the race for Barbara Boxer’s seat in the U.S. Senate. Since leaving office, he has had an assortment of private sector jobs as well as a part-time professorship at USC, where he leads a think tank called the USC Villaraigosa Initiative for Restoring the California Dream.
