Friday night’s top high school football games

Bellflower St. John Bosco (6-0, 1-0) vs. Santa Ana Mater Dei (6-0, 1-0) at Santa Ana Stadium, 7 p.m.

Regular-season games don’t get much better than No. 2 St. John Bosco, averaging 63.7 points, taking on No. 3 Mater Dei, led by freshman quarterback J.T. Daniels. St. John Bosco’s defensive line hasn’t allowed many points or yards, which makes the Monarchs’ challenge of keeping up with the Braves’ offense that much more difficult. St. John Bosco quarterback Quentin Davis used to attend Mater Dei and is hoping the only time he gets touched by linebacker Curtis Robinson is a handshake after the game.

The pick: St. John Bosco.

Rancho Santa Margarita Tesoro (5-1, 1-0) at Mission Viejo (7-0, 1-0), 7:30 p.m.

Tesoro won’t reveal until game time whether quarterback Devon Modster can play. He missed last week because of a shoulder injury. Mission Viejo, with a 19-game winning streak, has played solid defense. Tesoro will need to pick up some yards on the ground to set up the passing game.

The pick: Mission Viejo.

Camarillo (6-0) at Calabasas (6-0), 7 p.m.

These teams are ranked No. 1 in the Southern Section Northern and Western divisions, respectively. Both have quarterbacks playing outstanding football — Jake Constantine for Camarillo and Tristan Gebbia for Calabasas.

The pick: Camarillo.
