The PGA Tour’s event at Riviera Country Club has a new name: the Genesis Open

The trifecta of change is complete for the PGA Tour event in Los Angeles.

The tour is announcing today that the long-running event at Pacific Palisades’ Riviera Country Club will be known as the Genesis Open.

Genesis Motors is the luxury car spinoff company of Hyundai Motor America, which agreed in January to take over as the title sponsor in 2017 of the tournament that debuted in Los Angeles in 1926. Northern Trust was the title sponsor at Riviera for the last nine years.

In March, the tour announced that the Tiger Woods Foundation would become the new host organization for the tournament.

“I look forward to continuing to make a positive impact on the lives of children in Southern California, where my foundation is based, and am appreciative of the role Genesis will play in this mission,” Woods said in a prepared statement.

This will be the first major foray into sports for Genesis, which became its own company in November 2015. Genesis is based in Fountain Valley, as is Hyundai. Hyundai has produced Genesis models since 2008.

The 2017 Genesis Open will be played Feb. 16-19, with Bubba Watson defending as champion.

The tour announced the full schedule for 2016-17. The wraparound season begins with the Safeway Open in Napa on Oct. 15. After seven events on the fall schedule and a break, the winners-only Tournament of Champions tees off in Maui on Jan. 5.

Here are the dates for the rest of the West Coast Swing: Sony Open in Hawaii, Jan. 12-15; CareerBuilder Challenge in La Quinta, Jan. 19-22; Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, Jan. 26-29; Waste Management Phoenix Open, Feb. 2-5; and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Feb. 9-12.
