Baseball: Chatsworth, El Camino Real share West Valley League title

The West Valley League baseball season ended in a first-place tie between El Camino Real and Chatsworth on Thursday.

Cleveland upset El Camino Real, 5-2, behind Sam Villa, who improved to 9-2 with a complete game. Senituli Taufahema went three for four.

Chatsworth pulled out a 3-1 win over Granada Hills when Andrew Renteria hit a walk-off two-run home run in the eighth inning. Granada Hills’ Chris Murphy had held the Chancellors to one run through seven innings before being replaced. Brandon Bohning also had a home run for the Chancellors.

El Camino Real and Chatsworth will hold a coin flip to decide which team will be the No. 1 team from the league for the playoffs. That team will likely be the No. 1 seed for the City Section Division I playoffs when seedings are completed on Monday.

Birmingham defeated Taft, 4-2, to finish in third place. Alberto Lopez, Jorge Navarrete and Edgar Edgar Rivas each had two hits.

In the Marine League, Banning defeated Narbonne, 5-4, in eight innings. Javier Perez went three for four with two RBIs and had a walk-off double in the eighth. Narbonne, Carson and San Pedro finished in a three-way tie for second. Banning finished 10-0.

In the Mission League, Crespi defeated Loyola, 5-1. The loss leaves Chaminade a half-game ahead of the Cubs in first place.

In the Bay League, Mira Costa defeated Morningside, 11-0. Joey Acosta and Roland Huseman combined on a one-hitter.

Foothill defeated Brea Olinda, 6-0. Dillon Brown threw the shutout and is now 9-1 with an 0.43 ERA. Bryce Etchandy hit two home runs, including a grand slam.

In the Trinity League, Santa Margarita defeated Servite, 5-1. Konnor Kwok threw six innings. Johnny Carr and Ryne Russo had two hits each.

Sierra Canyon defeated Crossroads, 13-2, in five innings. Billy Edwards and Beau Zacharia hit home runs and Seth Stone improved to 8-1. Edwards had five RBIs.

Esperanza defeated El Modena, 6-0. Blake Schriever threw a three-hitter.

Trent Topping needed only 67 pitches to throw a complete game in Great Oak’s 3-1 win over Murrieta Mesa.

El Toro defeated Tesoro, 8-5. Matt Kincaide went three for three with four RBIs.

Vista Murrieta defeated Chaparral, 9-1. Shane McNeeley went three for three. Chance Hroch struck out eight.

North defeated Rancho Verde, 3-0. Tony Bullard threw a two-hitter.

Baldwin Park defeated Workman, 14-0.

Culver City improved to 8-0 in the Ocean League with an 8-0 win over Hawthorne. Nolan Martinez threw five no-hit innings and struck out eight to lower his ERA to 0.85.
