Football: A reminder how transfers are helping championship teams

Share

As a public service, I’m offering a reminder as to a key ingredient needed to winning a high school championship: It’s always imperative to have a transfer or two on your team, particularly at the highest level.

This has been going on for a while, and nothing has changed this season in football. There’s nothing legally wrong with transfers _ it’s just become part of the sports scene. Powerful programs that lose seniors to graduation need transfers to stay good.

St. John Bosco is playing for the Open Division championship on Saturday. Among its transfers were defensive backs Terrell Bynum (Servite), Jacob Bailey (JSerra) and Jaiden Woodbey (Upland).

Sierra Canyon’s defense got a big lift from the Kamulali brothers, Daniel and Ronald, from Chatsworth.

St. Anthony’s offensive star has been quarterback John Buksa, a transfer from Long Beach Millikan.

When the basketball season is over, just look over the rosters and you’ll see the same trend.
