Football: Another thriller in Orange Lutheran-Servite series

Share

Next season, fans only need to show up for the final seconds of the Orange Lutheran-Servite game to feel like they’ve earned the price of admission.

Last Friday night, for the third consecutive season, the game was decided at the very end of the game.

Two years ago, it took a Hail Mary pass from Travis Johnson to give Servite a 20-19 win.

Last season, it was a 31-yard field goal by Andrew Acosta with five seconds left to give Servite a 28-25 victory.

This season, it was a four-yard touchdown run by Markell Quinn as time expired to enable Orange Lutheran to defeat Servite, 37-36.

“It’s crazy,” Orange Lutheran Coach Chuck Petersen said.

The Lancers had to scramble just to get the play off. They had no timeouts left. Servite was called for offsides to briefly halt the clock. But it resumed and Orange Lutheran ran the pitch play to Quinn for the winning TD.
