Earthquake: 3.1 quake strikes near Big Bear City, Calif.

A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported Friday morning three miles from Big Bear City, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 6:40 a.m. Pacific time at a depth of 2.5 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 16 miles from Yucaipa, Calif., 18 miles from Banning, Calif., and 20 miles from Beaumont, Calif.

In the past 10 days, there have been 10 earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
