Earthquake: 4.0 quake strikes near Bridgeport

A shallow magnitude 4.0 earthquake was reported Friday morning 12 miles from Bridgeport, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 12:48 a.m. PDT at a depth of 4.3 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 48 miles from South Lake Tahoe, 55 miles from Carson City, Nev., and 76 miles from Truckee.

In the last 10 days, there have been no earthquakes magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
