Four children allegedly abducted by their non-custodial parents from Boyle Heights last week were found safe Tuesday near the California-Mexico border, authorities said.

A statewide Amber Alert issued for the Felix children -- Enrique, 7; Justin, 5; and 1-year-old twins Veronica and Janet -- was deactivated Tuesday afternoon, though the California Highway Patrol said their parents still had not been found.

No specific details were immediately available about where the children were found and where.

Authorities allege Enrique Feliz and Rosa Chairez took their children from Chairez’s mother’s home on Friday afternoon. The parents had been ordered to stay away from their children except for visits supervised by Los Angeles County social workers, Los Angeles police said.

Authorities said Enrique Felix was also known to be “physically violent” toward Chairez and the children.

Police said they received numerous tips from callers after the Amber Alert was broadcast across the state early Saturday.

Felix was described as being about 5-foot-10 and weighing 200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen driving away with the children in a dark-colored PT Cruiser that was missing its right rear hubcap and had paper license plates, authorities said.

Chairez was described as 5-foot-3 and about 150 pounds, with red hair and brown eyes.

[Updated 2:08 p.m. PST, March 18: Los Angeles police detectives were heading to the border Tuesday afternoon to retrieve the children, who were found by U.S. Border Patrol agents about 9:30 a.m., said LAPD spokesman Richard French.

The children were reported to be in good health and will be placed in protective custody upon their return to Los Angeles, French said. Warrants have been issued for their parents’ arrests.]
