American Airlines flight makes emergency landing in San Francisco

Officials said an American Airlines flight on Monday made an emergency landing at San Francisco International Airport because of a pressurization problem after several interior panels shook loose and fell.

Flight 2293, heading from San Francisco to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, turned around and landed at 2:15 p.m. after the pilot became aware that the panels had come off during the flight, said Matt Miller, a spokesman for the airline.

“It appears a blown air duct was the issue,” Miller said. “The cabin did not lose pressure and oxygen masks were not deployed for that reason.”

“They had an otherwise normal landing,” he added.

The Boeing 757, carrying 184 customers and six crew members, left San Francisco International Airport shortly before 1 p.m. A replacement aircraft is expected to fly the passengers to Texas at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
