Traffic is the pits after truck dumps load of peaches onto freeway

Share

A big rig lost its 2,000-pound load of peaches on a Fresno highway Tuesday, slicking the roadway and jamming up traffic as crews worked to clean up the mess.

The westbound Friant Road ramp to the southbound 41 Freeway was closed after the big rig’s trailer overturned, dumping its load shortly before 10:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities posted pictures of the mess on Twitter, showing numerous crates and spilled fruit blocking the roadway.

The driver of the big rig appeared to be OK, according to a CHP incident log.

California Department of Transportation crews were scheduled to pick up the peaches and put down sand to reduce the slickness of the road. Officials estimated that the ramp would reopen sometime later in the afternoon.
