San Diego council approves settlement for boy hit by trash truck
SAN DIEGO - The City Council on Tuesday approved an $18.5-million agreement to settle a personal injury claim filed on behalf of a boy severely injured when he was hit by a city trash truck.
Luke Acuna, now 11, was skateboarding in the North Park neighborhood in November 2011, when he was struck by the trash truck. He suffered internal injuries, and his left leg was amputated.
His attorney asserted that the truck was making an illegal turn.
The council approved the settlement without comment after discussing the issue in a closed session. The settlement ends all claims against the city and the truck driver.
