A woman whose body was found in a Burbank alley on Monday has been identified as 77-year-old Maria Huezo-Diaz, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.

An autopsy for Huezo-Diaz, whose body was found wrapped in a blanket in the alley near the 4000 block of Victory Boulevard, was pending, Los Angeles County Coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter said Wednesday morning.

Huezo-Diaz’s 40-year-old son, Moises Diaz, was arrested Monday in connection with the killing. He was being held in lieu of $1-million bail and expected in court Wednesday.

HOMICIDE REPORT: A story for every victim

Burbank police said Diaz lived with his mother. The slaying was Burbank’s first homicide of 2014, said Sgt. Darin Ryburn.

“We want to assure the community that this is not a random act of violence,” Ryburn said.

Since January 2007, there have been four other reported homicides within a mile of where the woman’s body was found, according to the Times Homicide Report database.
