Angeles Crest Highway driver found hanging from mountainside
A man hanging from the side of a mountain was rescued by deputies early Tuesday, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
About 1:10 a.m. Tuesday, a group of motorists flagged down deputies to tell them their friend’s “black Honda had possibly gone over the side of Angeles Crest Highway,” according to the release.
The car was found 450 feet from the side of the highway at mile marker 42, authorities said.
Although both the driver and passenger had been ejected, the passenger was able to crawl to safety but the driver could not and was found “hanging on to the side of the mountain approximately 100-150 feet down.”
Two deputies slid down the steep hill and grabbed the man, “preventing a possible 400-foot fatal fall down the mountain,” according to the release.
A search-and-rescue team was called in and “team members were able to rappel down and rescue them from the canyon.”
