Suspect in dry-ice bombing at LAX released on own recognizance
A 28-year-old man arrested in connection with two so-called dry-ice bombs that exploded at Los Angeles International Airport was released on his own recognizance Monday, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Dicarlo Bennett, a ground service employee at the airport, was arrested in mid-October and charged in connection with the two bombs that exploded in an employee bathroom in Terminal 2 and in a tarmac area at another terminal.
He has pleaded not guilty and was released Monday.
His attorney has argued that Bennett removed the dry ice from a cargo bay to protect a dog from potentially lethal fumes. Authorities have said that there was no link to terrorism and that no one was injured in the incidents.
A second ground-service employee, 41-year-old Miguel Angel Iniguez, was also arrested in mid-October on suspicion of possessing a destructive device linked to the dry-ice incidents, police said.
Iniguez works for Servisair and was Bennett’s supervisor. He has already posted bond.
Both are due back in court Dec. 10, the district attorney’s office said.
