Earthquake: 3.3 quake strikes near Santa Clarita

A shallow-magnitude 3.3 earthquake was reported Friday afternoon five miles from Santa Clarita, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 2:21 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 5.6 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was eight miles from Castaic, nine miles from Simi Valley and 11 miles from West Hills, Calif.

In the past 10 days, there have been two earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
