Emmy Awards to close some downtown L.A. streets at rush hour today

Commuters are being warned to avoid streets around the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles today because of the Emmy Awards.

For the first time in 40 years, the television awards show will be held on a weeknight with the accompanying street closures affecting after-work traffic.

Most of the closures will last until midnight or beyond while celebrities are shuttled to and from the event and after-parties.

According to the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, the following streets will be closed all night tonight:

-- Georgia Street between Chick Hearn Court and West Road

-- Chick Hearn Court from Figueroa Street to LA Live Way

-- 11thStreet from Figueroa Street to Hope Street

-- 12th Street from Figueroa Street to Flower Street

There will also be sidewalk closures on the following streets:

-- Figueroa Street’s east sidewalk from Pico to Olympic boulevards

-- Pico Boulevard’s north sidewalk from Figueroa Street to LA Live Way

-- LA Live Way’s east sidewalk from Pico Boulevard to West Road

-- 11th Street’s north and south side from Figueroa Street to Flower Street
