Detectives search for clues, motive in mysterious Encino slaying
More than a dozen detectives are investigating a shooting in a tony Encino neighborhood that left an 80-year-old man dead Thursday morning, Los Angeles police officials said.
Harvey Cohen died at a hospital after suffering a single gunshot during a possible home invasion in the 5300 block of Andasol Avenue, KTLA reported.
Cohen’s wife heard a noise early Thursday and went downstairs and found her husband lying on the floor, according to KTLA.
Cohen had apparently confronted the suspect as he entered his home about 2:30 a.m., police said.
Police Cmdr. Andy Smith said the investigation was in its early stages and that, according to detectives, it was too early to say if it was a botched robbery or something else.
It does, however, “appear to be a completely isolated incident,” he said.
More than a dozen robbery and homicide detectives are on the case and canvassing the neighborhood, Smith said. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
