Prisoner who escaped from San Diego jail captured in El Cajon
A prisoner facing drug charges who escaped Tuesday from the San Diego Central Jail was captured Wednesday night, roughly 27 hours after his escape, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Don Andrea Torrillo, 26, was captured at about 9:30 p.m. at a Motel 6 in El Cajon by sheriff’s deputies and U.S. marshals. He was alone in the motel room.
Torrillo escaped from the jail in downtown San Diego just before 6 p.m. Tuesday. He had been arrested Friday when sheriff’s deputies served a search warrant on his home in Santee.
Torrillo will face escape charges along with the drug charges, the Sheriff’s Department said.
Investigators believe Torrillo may have escaped by swapping identification wristbands with a prisoner facing drug charges who was set to be released Tuesday.
