2 held in killings of transients at Glendora car wash
Glendora police have arrested two suspects on suspicion of murder in connection with the deaths of two men whose bodies were found early Thursday morning at a car wash.
In a statement released Friday afternoon, Glendora police Chief Rob Castro said authorities were “confident” that the two men in custody killed the victims and assured the community that the attack was an “isolated” incident.
Neither the suspects nor the victims were identified by police, but the statement described the victims as longtime Glendora residents who “apparently suffered from addiction and mental health issues over the years.” Both victims had been offered access to health resources, the statement said.
Los Angeles County coroner’s officials declined to release the victims’ names pending notification of their families.
“While the victims were living on the street, I want to be clear that their lifestyle is not the cause of this tragic situation” Castro said. “Being homeless is not a crime, the murder of two innocent people is, and we hold everyone involved accountable for their actions.”
The Glendora Police Department responded to calls about a possible fight near the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Route 66 about 2 a.m. Thursday, Lt. James DeMond previously told The Times. There they found the two victims,who were pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe they were stabbed, and in their statement Friday, authorities said they collected a “possible murder weapon.”
Glendora has not had a homicide since 2009, the chief said.
