Gold Line service interruptions continue after big rig crash on 210
Interruptions in Metro Gold Line service continued Friday morning after two big rigs collided in Pasadena on Thursday afternoon, snarling freeways, damaging the light-rail system and disrupting commutes.
All lanes on the eastbound 210 Freeway near Allen Avenue were reopened by Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
However, Gold Line service between the Lake and Sierra Madre Villa stations remained suspended as crews worked to repair the overhead power supply system and tracks, according to Metro.
Shuttle buses will operate between Lake, Allen and Sierra Madre Villa all day, Metro said. Trains will run every 10 to 12 minutes on the rest of the line.
The accident was reported around 12:56 p.m. on the eastbound 210 Freeway when the two big rigs collided. One smashed through the center divider and overturned on the Gold Line tracks adjacent to the freeway before catching fire, officials said.
One of the drivers was critically injured. The other escaped with minor injuries, a Pasadena Fire Deapartment spokeswoman said.
