A road rage incident nearly turned deadly Sunday when two men pulled weapons on each other in a Lancaster driveway, authorities said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Eric Deshawn Holliday, 26, of Long Beach was being held in the shooting of another man Sunday afternoon at a friend’s home.

The incident began about 12:30 p.m., the department said in a statement, when Holliday was on his way to a home in the 3600 block of West Avenue in Lancaster and saw a man with whom he’d had a run-in before.

The two were “familiar with one another from previous arguments stemming from a road rage incident,” the Sheriff’s Department statement said.

As Holliday drove by the man, authorities said, he stared at him. The man, in turn, followed Holliday and caught up with him at a neighbor’s house, they said.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, the man then pulled out a knife and Holliday pulled out a gun.

Officials said Holliday shot the man once and then fled to his apartment in Long Beach, where he was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, being an ex-felon in possession of a gun and discharging a firearm. He was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Officials said the knife-wielding man was taken to a local hospital, where his wounds were treated. He is expected to survive, they said, and will also likely be charged in the incident.
