Chase suspect wanted in kidnapping arrested in North Hollywood

An FBI-LAPD fugitive task force arrested a man wanted on kidnapping charges in Minnesota who authorities believe is the same man who led police on a chase in downtown Los Angeles earlier Thursday, officials said.

Jesus Ramirez, 31, of Los Angeles, was taken into custody without incident at the Peppertree Motel in North Hollywood, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.

She said Ramirez was walking out of the motel, saw authorities and tried to walk the other way, but was taken into custody. He was in the process of being booked at an LAPD station on Thursday evening.

Eimiller confirmed that St. Paul police had requested help finding Ramirez. The task force received information that he was in Los Angeles, which led to his being under surveillance and, ultimately, the chase.

LAPD officials said their pursuit began shortly after 12:45 p.m. near the intersection of Ceasar Chavez and Record avenues. At the time, police said the suspect was wanted in connection with a kidnapping and was possibly armed with a weapon.

The chase ended near 8th Street and Broadway in downtown, where the red SUV was last seen. Authorities established a perimeter in the area and closed some streets, but later took it down.

It is unclear how Ramirez got from downtown to North Hollywood.
