Police are looking for a gunman who shot a teenage girl to death in a Marina del Rey shopping center parking lot Wednesday night, authorities said.

The attack occurred just before 8 p.m. near Maxella and Glencoe avenues. The victim, identified as Kristine Carman, 17, was sitting in her car when someone walked up and shot her multiple times, LAPD Officer Liliana Preciado said. Carman was pronounced dead at the scene, and no one has been arrested.

According to witnesses, Carman was heard screaming near Jerry’s Famous Deli, then seen driving across the parking lot until she stopped in front of Panda Express, where she died, KABC reported.

Carman was a Houston resident and was visiting family in the area, the station reported. Police did not give a motive for the attack and said the shooter fled north toward the 90 freeway in a dark-colored SUV.

Homicides in Marina del Rey are rare. Only two others have occurred there since 2000.
