Officer-involved shooting leaves one person injured in Newport Beach

An officer-involved shooting near Superior and Placentia avenues in Newport Beach Thursday night left one person injured, police told The Times Community News.

The person was taken to a trauma center for treatment, said Newport police Sgt. Mike James.

No police officers were injured in the shooting.

James had no other details, including who was involved in the shooting or whether the injured person was suspected of a crime.

Newport Beach Fire Department rescuers responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m. and took the person to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, according to Battalion Chief Ron Gamble.
