Man found shot to death in his truck at Pacoima intersection

Man shot to death at Pacoima intersection in his truck, which still had its engine running when he was found

A man was shot to death inside his truck at an intersection in Pacoima early Thursday, police said.

Officers received a call about a Latino man in his 40s slumped over the steering wheel of a truck with the engine still running at the intersection of Glenoaks Boulevard and Vaughn Street before 5:30 a.m., said LAPD Sgt. Thomas Wunsch.

Responding officers discovered gunshots had struck the man, who was not immediately identified, and his truck several times, shattering the rear window, Wunsch said. Investigators have shut down the intersection and are diverting traffic around the area while they comb the crime scene for evidence.

Police did not immediately have a description of the shooter but were interviewing possible witnesses.

The last homicide to occur within a mile of Thursday's shooting was in June 2013, according to the L.A. Times' Homicide Report database. There have been at least 140 homicides in Pacoima since 2000.

Pacoima experienced a notable decline in homicides in 2013.
