More than $190,000 in stolen jewelry found during traffic stop

Police in Moreno Valley uncovered more than $190,000 in stolen jewelry during a traffic stop on Monday, authorities said.

Officers attempted to stop a 1995 Ford Explorer for a traffic violation near Sunnymead Boulevard and Heacock Street in Moreno Valley on Monday when a passenger, Tearza Edwards-Cayless, 24, allegedly attempted to flee, but was immediately arrested, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The 26-year-old driver, George Xavier, initially eluded capture but was arrested at a Moreno Valley home without incident later in the day.

The jewelry uncovered from the SUV was stolen in Thousand Oaks on June 21 and has since been returned to its owner, according to the sheriff’s department.

Police executed a search warrant at Xavier’s residence in the 25300 block of Alessandro Boulevard, where they uncovered additional suspected stolen property.

Edwards-Cayless, who is currently on parole for burglary, was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center on suspicion of burglary and possessing of stolen property. Xavier was booked on two counts of burglary and possession of stolen property. His bail was set at $300,000.
