Authorities are continuing to search for a motorist who hit and killed a 40-year-old man in a wheelchair in Arleta on Friday night before fleeing the scene.

Manuel Dejesus Segovia Gonzalez of Pacoima was crossing Terra Bella Street just east of Cayuga Avenue at about 8 p.m. when he was hit, authorities said.

“He was run over and dragged by the vehicle for about 100 feet, where he was left lying in the middle of the street,” said Officer J. Hahm, of the Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division.

Gonzalez was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

He was struck just outside of an unmarked crosswalk, which is where a crosswalk would be at an intersection, Hahm said.

Police are searching for the driver and described the vehicle as possibly a maroon Cadillac SUV or truck.

“We’re looking for clues and witnesses,” Hahm said. “Public help is much needed.”
