Sacramento psychologist accused of assaulting two female patients

A licensed psychologist from Sacramento has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting two female patients during private sessions, authorities said.

Marvin Todd, 71, was taken into custody Thursday at his Fulton Avenue practice in connection with an alleged sexual assault on one patient and alleged inappropriate touching of a second patient during separate incidents, said Sgt. Lisa Bowman of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.

“It’s a huge violation,” she said. “It’s very disturbing.”

Detectives began investigating Todd after the first patient reported that he had sexually assaulted her, Bowman said.

As detectives looked into the woman’s claim, they discovered that a second patient had filed a complaint about Todd with the California Board of Psychology, she said.

That patient alleged Todd had inappropriately touched her during a session.

Investigators believe the incidents occurred in February and March this year.

Authorities say Todd allegedly used his position as a psychologist to sexually exploit his patients.

Todd has been in practice since 1975, according to the state board’s website. No disciplinary or administrative actions have been issued against him.
