Possible explosive device prompts evacuations in Lakewood

Authorities were evacuating residents from an area covering several blocks in Lakewood on Thursday evening after a report of a possible explosive device in a home.

A bomb squad and arson investigators were at the scene in the 5200 block of Iroquois Avenue, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

Residents in an area bounded roughly by Candlewood Street, Dashwood Street and Josie Avenue were being evacuated. Deputies were going to door to door, a department spokesman told The Times.

An evacuation center has been established at Jose San Martin Park at 5231 Ocana Ave. in Lakewood.

No other details were immediately available.
