Suspect who barricaded himself in Santa Monica apartment surrenders
A man who had barricaded himself in a Santa Monica apartment surrendered after a sheriff’s special weapons team fired tear gas into the unit.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Nicole Nishida said the man surrendered about 4:45 p.m. and was taken into custody. No one was injured, she said.
Nishida said the suspect, whose name has not been released, was the subject of a Major Crimes investigation, but she did not have further details about why the man barricaded himself.
The standoff began about 12:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Ocean Park Boulevard.
Neighbors who were evacuated during the incident have been allowed to return to their homes, Nishida said.
