LAPD officers kill man in his 70s after he allegedly shoots wife
A man in his 70s was shot and killed by Los Angeles police Tuesday morning after he allegedly shot his wife, then refused to put down his gun when officers ordered him to surrender.
LAPD officers responded to a report of gunshots on South Normandie Avenue near West 41st Place in South L.A. about 9:25 a.m., Sgt. Albert Gonzalez said.
Officers arrived and found a man in his 70s in a backyard with a handgun. He was ordered to drop the weapon, but did not comply and was shot, said Cmdr. Andrew Smith.
“The suspect is dead,” he said.
Police then entered the house and found a 70-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her right ear, Smith said. She was listed in good condition at a local hospital.
Police officials called it a domestic incident.
Four officers were involved in the incident, but none were injured, Gonzalez said.
