Warm weekend in store for Southern California valleys
Warmer temperatures are headed for Southern California this weekend, especially in the valleys, with some areas expected to top 100 degrees, the National Weather Service said.
Highs in inland valleys will range from about 92 to 103 degrees Friday and Saturday as a high-pressure system from Arizona expands westward into California, said David Sweet, a weather service meteorologist.
Some valley areas, such as in Burbank, could experience temperatures about 10 degrees above normal, Sweet said, before cooling begins Sunday.
Sweet said the weather service had no plans to issue any heat-related warnings as of Friday, but that people in hot spots such as Woodland Hills and Chatsworth should take extra precautions.
Other areas will see less intense warming. Sweet said downtown Los Angeles will have about average highs Friday and Saturday in the mid-80s.
