A woman was killed early Sunday when she was hit by a passing car and run over by another while pushing a car that had run out of gas on the 405 Freeway in the Torrance area, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The woman and a man were traveling north on the 405 near the 110 Freeway interchange when their 1995 Toyota ran out of gas about 12:30 a.m., authorities said.
They got out of the car and were trying to push it onto the right shoulder, according to the CHP.
A 2012 BMW did not slow down as it drove past the Toyota and hit the woman and the right rear corner of the car, authorities said. The impact threw the woman's body from the slow lane into the lane second from the center divider.
The driver of a 2003 Audi swerved to avoid a piece of rubber, saw the body but was unable to avoid running over it, according to a statement from the CHP.
The woman's identity was not released pending notification of her relatives.
