A drive-by shooting near Manual Arts High School early Friday left two people dead, but classes were not affected, police said.

“It really did not involve the school. It was just in the neighborhood,” said Lt. Julio Lima of the Los Angeles Unified School District Police Department.

A man and a woman were walking in the 1000 block of West 42nd Street about 4 a.m. when someone in a black sport utility vehicle drove by and started shooting, police said.

The unidentified victims were hit multiple times. The man died at the scene, and the woman was pronounced dead at a hospital.

No one has been arrested, but police were investigating the shooting as gang-related.

Classes at the high school, which begin about 7 a.m., were not disrupted, police said.
