It was the final tournament for the pair, who are one of two teams to represent the U.S. in Men’s beach volleyball at the Rio Olympic Games, which start Aug. 6 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Patterson and Gibb, the top-seed in the tournament, rallied to defeated No. 3 Tri Bourne/John Hyden in a close finals match, 17-21, 21-18, 16-14, to win the $20,000 top prize. It was their 13th overall AVP title as a team, third for Gibb and first for Patterson at Manhattan Beach.

The other U.S. Men’s Beach Volleyball Team, Phil Dalhauser (Manhattan Beach) and Nick Lucena (Tallahassee, Fla.), were the No. 2-seed in the tournament and lost in the semifinals to Patterson and Gibb (10-10, retired), and finished equal-third with the fourth-seeded team, the brothers tandem of Taylor and Trevor Crabb.
