AT THE PLATE: Yunel Escobar doubled, singled and walked, raising his spring average to .486. …Daniel Nava hit a solo home run, his first of spring training. …Outfielders Kole Calhoun and Craig Gentry each doubled and singled. Calhoun also walked. …C.J. Cron doubled and walked as the Angels amassed 13 hits and 18 baserunners.

ON THE MOUND: Left-hander Andrew Heaney struck out five Rangers in four innings. It was his third spring start. He yielded three singles, a walk, and a solo home run to Ryan Rua. The system at Surprise Stadium clocked his fastball as high as 92 mph.

Among likely relievers, left-hander Jose Alvarez struck out two men in one scoreless inning, and right-hander Mike Morin struck out the side in a perfect inning. …Right-hander Javy Guerra, competing for a spot in the bullpen, threw two scoreless innings, striking out two while allowing one hit, a triple.

EXTRA BASES: The Rangers committed five errors. The Angels committed one. …Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons did not travel to Surprise. He has not played the field in one week and probably won’t until Tuesday. He is dealing with arm fatigue and did not throw during standard infield drills Sunday morning.

Calhoun was caught attempting to steal second base. …Heaney picked off Ian Desmond at first base. Two other Rangers successfully stole off of him.

In a minor league game at Tempe Diablo Stadium, Angel catchers Carlos Perez and Geovany Soto both batted several times. Perez doubled and Soto tripled.
