Dodgers’ Dee Gordon will go on disabled list for shoulder injury

Dee Gordon was scheduled to be put on the 15-day disabled list after an MRI exam Wednesday revealed he suffered a bruised right shoulder, Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly said.

The rookie shortstop reinjured the shoulder Tuesday night while fouling off a pitch against the Philadelphia Phillies at Dodger Stadium. Wincing in pain, he immediately left the game.

Gordon, 23, initially hurt the shoulder Saturday in Phoenix and was held out of the starting lineup for two days. This time, he is scheduled to be put on the DL on Friday, and a corresponding move to fill his place on the roster also is expected.

Gordon is going on the DL “as a precaution [to] make sure this thing totally goes away,” Mattingly said, adding that after consulting with head trainer Stan Conte, “we felt [Gordon would] be ready in 15 days.”

After Wednesday’s game against the Phillies, Gordon stood in street clothes in the Dodgers’ clubhouse and said he “was a little bit nervous, I’m not going to lie,” about the extent of the injury.

“But thank God for what little did happen,” he said, adding that he had never taken an MRI exam before nor had he ever missed 15 days of playing time in his young sports career.

As for treatment, Gordon said he would start with strengthening and conditioning exercises on the shoulder for “getting stronger for when I come back.”

Blake ignores neck ailment

Casey Blake was busy again Wednesday — he scored the Dodgers’ first run and later committed a costly error — despite a lingering neck problem.

Blake, who turns 38 later this month, said he is still occasionally bothered by pain in his neck that sidelined him for nearly a month in July.

“There are just certain plays that really fire it up,” he said, declining to be more specific so that rivals could not “exploit my weaknesses.”

“I’m all right as long as I can keep those plays to a minimum,” he said. “Fortunately, the last few days I’ve been feeling all right.”

Rivera’s busy bat

One day after his 10-game hitting streak ended, Juan Rivera got back to hitting safely.

Rivera had a three-run home run as part of the Dodgers’ five-run first inning against Philadelphia, and three hits and four runs batted in overall.

Rivera was batting .338 with 13 RBIs since joining the Dodgers in mid-July.

Short hops

Matt Kemp stole his 30th base of the season and had four hits, which matched his one-game high this season; Kemp’s career high in stolen bases is 35 set in 2008. . . .
