Evans Receives $10,000 Fine

Denver Nugget forward Reggie Evans was fined $10,000 and retroactively assessed a flagrant foul Monday stemming from an incident with Clipper center Chris Kaman in Game 4.

Stu Jackson, NBA senior vice president, announced his ruling after the league investigated the events that preceded Kaman’s being assessed a flagrant foul for shoving Evans during Saturday’s 100-86 Clipper victory at Pepsi Center.

Kaman said he told referees that Evans grabbed his testicles and “pulled hard,” and repeated his account in an interview with an NBA security official.

Evans disputed Kaman’s version with NBA officials and reporters covering the first-round playoff series, insisting he never touched the 7-foot center’s testicles.

Television replays appeared to indicate that Evans put his hand under Kaman’s shorts as they battled for position near the basket.

Jackson reduced Kaman’s foul to a technical, and Evans was assessed a flagrant foul “penalty two” for unnecessary and excessive contact. Evans, however, wasn’t suspended.

“Everybody is saying I grabbed something,” Evans said. “What did I grab? When I kind of looked at the tape, did he even react? Imagine if somebody grabbed you down there. You’re going to at least [exclaim], ‘It hurt!’ I’m like, C’mon, man.”

Evans lied, Kaman said.

“He’s flat-out lying,” he said. “Just look at the tape. It was foolish, it was ignorant. The game was so intense, the series has been difficult, and he’s a very physical basketball player.”
