KEY MOMENT: Batting practice, which is what the Dodgers took against 39-year-old Tim Hudson in the shortest start of his distinguished career. Hudson faced 11 batters and retired three, giving up six runs and eight hits in one-plus inning.

RECORD ROMP: The Dodgers never had beaten the Giants by so much since moving to California. The previous record for margin of victory: 16, in a 19-3 victory in 1970.

AT THE PLATE: Matt Kemp doubled twice, singled once and drove in three runs. Kemp’s slugging percentage since the All-Star break is .582, third in the NL behind Buster Posey and Giancarlo Stanton. Yasiel Puig had his first three-hit game since Aug. 15 and his first extra-base hit – a double – since Aug. 31. Hanley Ramirez had four hits. Even pitcher Zack Greinke set off the bubble machine, with a home run -- following a double and walk in his previous two plate appearances.

ON THE MOUND: Greinke (15-8) pitched six shutout innings, walking none and striking out five and lowering his ERA to 2.64, fifth in the NL behind Clayton Kershaw, Johnny Cueto, Cole Hamels and Adam Wainwright. Scott Elbert, who had three elbow operations since his last major league game in 2012, pitched one scoreless inning.

INJURY NEWS: Kemp fouled a ball off his left foot in the fifth inning. He completed the at-bat – striking out – but Joc Pederson replaced him in right field in the bottom of the inning.

ROSTER NEWS: The Dodgers activated left-hander Paco Rodriguez, who had not pitched since Aug. 3 because of a strained back muscle. The Dodgers spent most of the summer with J.P. Howell as their lone left-handed reliever, but they used the expanded September roster to add Elbert on Friday and Rodriguez on Saturday. Elbert and Rodriguez are eligible for postseason play.

FAMILY NEWS: Giants reliever Brett Bochy made his major league debut, making San Francisco’s Bruce Bochy the first manager in major league history to hand the ball to his son. Brett Bochy, 27, struck out Puig but gave up two runs in 11/3 innings.

UP NEXT: The Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw (18-3, 1.67 ERA) faces the Giants’ Yusmiero Petit (5-3, 3.62) on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. at AT&T Park. In 11 career games in San Francisco, Kershaw is 7-2 with a 0.69 ERA. TV: SportsNet LA. Radio: 570, 1020.
