Dodgers’ Tom Lasorda pep talk leads Clippers to victory?

It’s Tom Lasorda, master motivator.

For years the Dodgers’ Hall of Fame manager has been invited to share his motivational talks to various teams all over the country. Sometimes he even provides them when not invited.

Lasorda was in Phoenix on Tuesday night and took in the Clippers’ game against the Suns. He was returning to his courtside seat during a timeout, walked past the Clippers huddle and just could not help himself.

The Dodgers said he worked his way into the Clippers huddle and began an impromptu pep talk. The kind few 86-year-olds can deliver. He must have really got it going too. Said the Dodgers:

“Not one for brevity, Tommy’s speech lasted a little longer than the timeout would allow. With the game beckoning, Dodger fan and All-Star Chris Paul escorted Tommy to his seat, so that the game could continue.”

And yet another assist for Paul. Apparently, Lasorda did not tell the Clippers that Suns guard Goran Dragic couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat.

Said Lasorda: “I told them I’m proud of them. I said, ‘The second half belongs to us.’ I talked to [Blake] Griffin, I told him he’s a star and he hasn’t scratched the surface yet. People pay a lot of money to see you play, so you better come out and play.”

The Clippers trailed, 55-44, at the half and, as the Dodgers noted, went on to outscore the Suns, 37-18, in the third quarter and won, 104-96.

No word yet of when Lasorda will talk to the Lakers, invited or not.
